China's National Highway 318 — Sichuan to Xizang. Two thousand kilometres of switchbacks: jade rivers, alpine lakes, the Litang prairie at four thousand metres, snow peaks at sunrise, the occasional yak refusing to move. No agenda beyond the next pass.
